Belt WeighFeeder – The Basics that you wanted to know

belt weighfeeder

One of the easiest method to move any material from one place to another is through Belt Weighfeeders. Belt Weighfeeders allows a continuous, controlled product flow on the moving belt. In this operation the precise weighing of material, as it moves, are also recorded for various purposes. Hence weigh feeders follow a closed loop control system in which a precise control can be had over the flow of materials, which has indicating, totalizing and controlling instruments and circuits.

Application of Belt WeighFeeder

Belt WeighFeeders are usually employed in continuous bulk proportioning of solids. They are operated by a closed loop control system enabling feeding at a controlled rate and exercises precise control over rate of flow based on a micro controller.

The system is capable of accepting external signals from other controllers or from the process computer, depending on the extent of plant instrumentation. You will find these feeders in operation in steel, cement, fertilizer, glass and chemical industries mostly.

Each system consists of control and local panels, load cells to measure the instantaneous load, a digital system to sense the speed of the belt and a belt feeder conveyor shaft which is driven by an AC motor coupled through the gear box.

Belt Weighfeeder types

Belt WeighFeeders can be of following types,

Belt weighfeeder with controlled belt speed:

Belt Weighfeeders with controlled belt speed are belt-assisted feeders whose belt speed is adapted so it attains the nominal delivery rate.Since the same amount of material is not always transported on the conveyor belt, the belt speed must be varied to achieve a constant feed rate per unit of time. The weight of the material transported is determined by weighing the belt load and measuring the belt speed.

Depending on design, belt weighfeeders have delivery rates ranging from several kilograms to several hundred tons an hour.

Belt weighfeeder with metering hopper:

Belt weighfeeders with metering hoppers have a controlled feeder which adjusts the amount of material on the belt. These metering hoppers, which may be chutes, augers, radial vane rotors or conveyor belts, feed precisely the right amount of material to the conveyor belt.

Belt weighfeeders are suited to bulk materials which flow easily and don’t stick to the belt and can handle very large mass flows.

At AAG we have a vast experience in designing and manufacturing Belt WeighFeeder. We start with the design to meet the specific needs of an application by working closely with our customer and then our manufacturing practices ensure that there is accurate weighing and minimal material wastage during the operation.
